Professional Rodent Investigation and Rat Flap Installation in Farnham
DCL Pest Control recently attended a property in Farnham following reports of suspected rodent activity. The client had noticed signs of disturbance around the front garden and requested a full investigation to determine how rats were accessing the building.
As specialists in rodent investigation and prevention, we carried out a comprehensive assessment of both the external grounds and drainage system to identify the root cause of the issue.
Investigation Findings
During the initial inspection, we identified multiple rat holes in the front garden area. After carefully exposing the affected section, we discovered an open, disused 100mm waste pipe outlet that was providing direct access into the drainage system.
Using our specialist CCTV equipment, we further investigated the drainage line and located an additional entry point in the brickwork where an old iron pipe previously entered the building. This created a hidden access route into the cavity.
Upon lifting the final inspection chamber, we found clear evidence of rat droppings within the chamber, confirming active use of the drainage system by rodents.
We also identified a further entry point near the bin storage area, where rats were accessing the property through an old, disused vent.
Works Carried Out
To eliminate the issue at its source and prevent future infestations, we completed the following remedial works:
-
Removed the old, disused drain connection entering the property
-
Cemented and sealed two structural entry points leading into the cavity
-
Cemented a redundant lateral connection that was no longer in use
-
Permanently closed off the disused vent in the final inspection chamber
-
Carried out high-pressure jetting of the drainage line to remove builder’s debris
-
Thoroughly cleaned and sanitised all affected inspection chambers
By removing access points and restoring the integrity of the drainage system, we significantly reduced the risk of future rodent access.
Rat Flap Installation in Farnham
To provide long-term protection, we installed a rat flap in Farnham within the upstream drainage line. After fully cleaning the line, the rat flap was securely fitted to prevent rodents from travelling through the sewer system into the property.
Rat flaps act as a one-way valve within the drainage system, allowing waste to flow normally while preventing rats from pushing back up into the main line and entering the building.
This solution ensures ongoing protection against underground rodent access, which is one of the most common causes of repeat infestations.
